WEDDING MUSIC GUIDE · OUTDOOR MUSIC
Can we have live wedding music outside?
Yes — outdoor ceremonies and drinks receptions can work beautifully, provided the musicians have a safe, level and properly sheltered place to play.
SHELTER
Protection from rain and direct sun is essential.
GROUND
A stable, level surface is far better than soft or uneven grass.
BACKUP
Always agree the indoor alternative before the day.
Weather is more than rain
Strong sun can be uncomfortable for musicians and instruments, while wind can move music stands, affect sound and make exposed locations difficult. Good shade and a sensible position matter just as much as a rain plan.
FROM EXPERIENCE
A beautiful ceremony position in full afternoon sun can be less practical than a slightly shaded position a few metres away. The best setup balances appearance with comfort, safety and sound.
Do musicians need power outside?
Sometimes. It depends on the instruments and setup being used. Safe mains power is useful when available, but JAM Duo can also use a suitable power pack for many outdoor situations.
The important thing is to know the location in advance so the right setup can be planned.
Outdoor ceremony or drinks reception?
Both work well, but the priorities are slightly different. For a ceremony, the musicians need a clear view of the entrance so the music can follow it. For drinks, the setup should be audible without sitting in the middle of guest movement, drinks service or photographs.
Plan the indoor option before you need it
A wet-weather plan should not be invented five minutes before the ceremony. If everybody already knows where the music will move, changing location can be calm and straightforward.
