Situated in the heart of Wiltshire’s serene countryside, Syrencot stands as a testament to timeless elegance and modern sophistication. This exclusive-use wedding venue seamlessly blends historical charm with contemporary luxury, offering couples an idyllic setting to begin their journey together.
A Rich Historical Tapestry
Syrencot’s origins trace back to the 11th century when the manor was held by the Hussey family. By the 14th century, it had evolved into its own hamlet, with the manor house at its center. In 1639, Thomas Dyke acquired the estate, and it remained in his family for generations. Notably, William Dyke, hailed as “the greatest farmer in Wiltshire,” managed over 5,000 sheep on the grounds in the 18th century.
The Georgian manor house, constructed in 1738, showcases classic architectural features, including a distinctive crinkle-crankle garden wall added in the 18th century. The iconic Glasshouse, now a focal point for ceremonies, was introduced by 1901.
During World War II, Syrencot played a pivotal role as the headquarters for the First and Sixth Airborne Divisions. It served as the residence for notable military figures like Lieutenant General Browning and General Sir Richard Gale. The estate was instrumental in planning Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944.
A Modern Revival
After years of varied use, including military operations, Syrencot underwent a significant transformation. Acquired by Artemis Venue Services in 2018, the estate was meticulously restored to its former glory. The renovation introduced contemporary elements while preserving its historical essence. The addition of the Farmshed, a modern barn constructed using glulam and steel, offers a spacious and versatile reception area, harmoniously contrasting the Georgian architecture.
Enchanting Venue Features
The Glasshouse: Once a Victorian structure, the Glasshouse has been reconstructed to serve as a luminous ceremony space. Its design allows natural light to flood in, offering panoramic views of the Walled Garden, making it a romantic setting for vows.
The Walled Garden: Encased by the unique crinkle-crankle wall, this garden blooms year-round, providing a picturesque backdrop for outdoor ceremonies and receptions.
The Farmshed: This purpose-built barn combines rustic charm with modern amenities. Its open-plan design accommodates dining and dancing, with features like a central fireplace and access to a secluded terrace.
Syrencot House: The Georgian manor offers 13 elegantly appointed bedrooms, including a luxurious Master Suite. Guests can enjoy the blend of historical architecture and contemporary comforts, ensuring a restful stay.
