It was a real pleasure for us, JAM Duo, to be part of Martin and Kat’s wedding at Liverpool Town Hall on Halloween – 31 October 2025. This beautiful historic building in the heart of the city provided a stunning backdrop for their celebrations, and we were delighted to provide live music throughout both the drinks reception and wedding breakfast.
Drinks Reception in the East and Central Reception Rooms
Following their ceremony, guests gathered in the East and Central Reception Rooms for drinks and canapés. With their love of all things musical — from classical to indie, punk, new wave, and everything in between — Martin and Kat gave us the freedom to shape the playlist in our own JAM Duo style.
We blended cello and piano versions of songs by Florence and the Machine, U2, The Cure, The Smiths, Oasis, Pulp, Blondie, and Foo Fighters, alongside classics from The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, Queen, and The Rolling Stones. It was the perfect opportunity to explore some of the most iconic British music ever written, all reimagined for cello and piano.
Our Yamaha sound system ensured the sound carried beautifully across the elegant rooms, creating a warm, live atmosphere as guests mingled and enjoyed their drinks.
Wedding Breakfast in the Grand Ballroom
After the drinks reception, everyone moved through to the Grand Ballroom — one of Liverpool Town Hall’s most impressive spaces. Here we continued with a similar mix of music, keeping the energy relaxed but vibrant to suit the meal.
We didn’t use our piano shell on this occasion, just our Nord Stage piano and electric cello — a slightly more contemporary setup that suited the space perfectly. The acoustics in the ballroom are superb, and the natural resonance of the cello sounded wonderful against the ornate architecture and high ceilings.
A Magical Halloween Wedding
There was certainly a touch of magic in the air for this wedding — quite literally! Kat, the bride, is a practising witch, and the couple incorporated a traditional broomstick-jumping ceremony at the end of their vows. It was a truly memorable moment, and of course fitting that their wedding took place on Halloween.
It’s not every day we see a broomstick as part of the décor, and we loved how the couple made the day so uniquely their own.
A Liverpool Classic
As musicians, it’s always special for us to play in Liverpool — home of The Beatles, and a city with such a rich musical heritage. We couldn’t resist including a few Beatles songs during the day, and hearing them echo through the grand halls of the Town Hall felt quite special.
