There is something wonderfully special about Scottish weddings — the warmth, the humour, the sense of tradition blended with individuality — and Claire and Ricky’s wedding at The Three Kings in Falkirk captured all of that and more. From film-inspired ceremony music to a room full of laughter, this was a day packed with personality, emotion, and unforgettable moments. JAM Duo were honoured to provide live cello and piano music throughout the ceremony, drinks reception, and wedding breakfast, and it was a true joy to be part of such a relaxed, entertaining, and genuinely happy celebration.
From the moment we arrived, it was clear this was going to be a brilliant day. The Three Kings is a welcoming and characterful venue with a real sense of warmth about it — the kind of place where guests instantly feel at ease. It offered the perfect setting for Claire and Ricky’s celebration: stylish yet relaxed, well-run, and full of atmosphere. The team were attentive and helpful throughout the day, making everything flow effortlessly for the couple, the guests, and all the suppliers involved.
The ceremony itself was led by Allan Kidd, Humanist Celebrant — known to many as The Kilted Celebrant — whose energy, warmth, and brilliant delivery made the ceremony not only meaningful but also full of personality. Allan has a wonderful ability to strike that perfect balance between heartfelt emotion and light-hearted humour, and he had the room completely engaged from start to finish.
Live Cello & Piano for the Ceremony
For this wedding, we provided our classic live cello and piano setup using our Nord Stage piano and Yamaha electric cello. We did not use the piano shell for this event, allowing for a cleaner, more contemporary look that suited the layout of the room perfectly. As always, everything was performed completely live — no backing tracks — giving Claire and Ricky full control over timing, atmosphere, and those all-important musical moments.
Claire and Ricky chose a wonderfully cinematic musical theme for their ceremony. Their selections were playful, emotional, and completely personal, with nods to some iconic film and television soundtracks. The atmosphere as guests arrived was relaxed and full of anticipation, supported by a pre-ceremony playlist that set the tone beautifully.
Pre-Ceremony Music Included:
- Game of Thrones – Main Theme
- I’ll Be There For You – Friends Theme
- Jurassic Park – Theme
- Eye of the Tiger – Survivor
- The Shire – Lord of the Rings
- He Sleeps – Pretty Woman
This mix created a brilliant sense of fun while still feeling elegant and atmospheric. Guests were instantly recognisable with each piece, and there was a lovely sense of shared enjoyment as familiar melodies floated around the room. The combination of cello and piano gave each track a rich, cinematic warmth, perfectly matching the couple’s film-inspired vision.
A Show-Stopping Entrance with a Twist
One of the most memorable moments of the entire day was Claire’s entrance — and it was truly unforgettable in the best possible way.
Ahead of the bride, three flower men made their entrance first, walking down the aisle to their own dedicated music. This immediately set the tone for what was to follow — relaxed, fun, and completely untraditional in the best sense. Once the flower men had taken their place, we began Claire’s entrance music.
For the bridesmaid, we performed Across the Stars from Star Wars, a beautifully romantic and sweeping piece that worked perfectly for the moment. As Claire then appeared with her father, the same theme continued, creating a seamless, emotional build as she made her way down the aisle.
And then came the moment that had the entire room laughing — just as Claire reached the end of the aisle and met Ricky, we perfectly timed the opening of the Imperial March from Star Wars. The reaction was instant. Guests burst into laughter, the mood lifted, and it was one of those moments that people will still be talking about for years to come. It was a perfect example of how live music allows for spontaneous, personalised, and perfectly timed musical storytelling.
Claire looked absolutely stunning walking down the aisle — radiant, confident, and glowing from head to toe. It was a genuinely beautiful moment, made even more powerful by the emotional connection between her and Ricky as they finally met at the front.

A Personal and Joyful Ceremony
With Allan Kidd guiding the ceremony, the room was filled with laughter, warmth, and genuine emotion. The readings, the words shared, and the overall atmosphere reflected Claire and Ricky’s relationship perfectly — loving, playful, and full of sincerity. It was one of those ceremonies where the time seems to pass effortlessly because everyone is completely engaged in the moment.
For the signing of the register, Claire and Ricky chose two beautifully contrasting pieces:
- A Million Dreams – The Greatest Showman
- For the Love of a Princess – Braveheart
Both worked wonderfully on cello and piano. A Million Dreams brought a sense of hope and excitement for the future, while For the Love of a Princess added that sweeping Scottish romanticism that felt especially fitting for a wedding in Falkirk.
For their recessional, they chose:
- Accidentally in Love
A bright, joyful, and uplifting choice that sent everyone out of the ceremony smiling, laughing, and ready to celebrate.
Seamless Transition into the Drinks Reception
One of the great advantages of The Three Kings is how adaptable the space is. After the ceremony, we were able to remain in the same room for the drinks reception, allowing everything to flow seamlessly without interruption. This meant there was no break in atmosphere — guests moved effortlessly from ceremony to celebration.
Claire and Ricky gave us creative freedom for the drinks reception playlist, with just one guiding theme: subtle movie inspiration mixed with well-known favourites from across the decades. This is a format we absolutely love working with, as it allows us to read the room, respond to the energy of the guests, and shape the atmosphere in real time.
We created a mix of:
- Gentle cinematic themes
- Recognisable classics
- Lighter contemporary tracks
- Relaxed instrumental covers
The overall mood was relaxed, sociable, and full of warmth. Conversations flowed easily, glasses clinked, and the room buzzed with excitement.
And then came one of our favourite personal requests of the entire day — as a special surprise for Claire, we performed The Exorcist theme when she passed by the musicians. Her reaction was priceless and instantly became another highlight moment that perfectly captured her sense of humour and personality.
It’s these little personalised touches that make weddings truly unique — and exactly why live music is so powerful.
Moving to the Wedding Breakfast
Later in the day, we relocated to the wedding breakfast room, where we were positioned on a stage in the centre of the room. This created a wonderful focal point for the music and allowed the sound of the cello and piano to fill the space beautifully from every angle.
During the wedding breakfast, our role was to enhance the atmosphere without overpowering it — elegant, stylish background music that allowed guests to relax, enjoy their meal, and continue celebrating together. We performed a refined selection of instrumental covers spanning:
- Film themes
- Romantic classics
- Contemporary favourites
- Soft pop and crossover repertoire
The result was a beautifully balanced atmosphere: lively enough to feel celebratory, yet gentle enough to allow conversation and speeches to take centre stage.
