Alice and Ben’s winter wedding at Horwood House Hotel was a beautifully stylish celebration — elegant, relaxed, and full of thoughtful musical choices that reflected both the season and their personalities.

JAM Duo were delighted to provide live cello and piano music for their wedding ceremony and drinks reception, both held indoors within the main hotel. With a black-tie dress code, festive winter light, and a soundtrack blending modern classics with subtle seasonal nods, the day had a wonderfully polished yet welcoming feel.

A Grand Buckinghamshire Wedding Venue

Horwood House Hotel is an impressive Buckinghamshire venue, combining historic architecture with warm, contemporary interiors — ideal for winter weddings where everything takes place inside.

The ceremony room’s large bay window provided a stunning focal point, allowing natural light to pour in despite the time of year, while the adjoining spaces made the transition into the drinks reception effortless.

Live cello and piano music works particularly well in venues like this, where acoustics are warm and guests remain close enough to truly experience the sound.

Indoor Winter Wedding Ceremony Music

The ceremony took place between 1:00pm and 1:30pm, with JAM Duo positioned neatly within the bay window of the ceremony room — a placement that allowed the music to float gently across the space without ever dominating it.

Pre-Ceremony Music

As guests arrived and settled, Alice and Ben chose a thoughtful mix of contemporary and cinematic songs:

  • Unforgettable – Sia
  • Christmas Is All Around – Love Actually
  • Landslide – Fleetwood Mac
  • This Year’s Love – David Gray
  • Half the World Away – Oasis

These pieces immediately set the tone — romantic, slightly nostalgic, and perfectly suited to a winter wedding without feeling overly festive.

Entrance of the Bride

For Alice’s entrance, the choice was the Glasgow Love Theme from Love Actually — a moment that felt quietly magical.

Performed live on cello and piano, the music filled the room with warmth and emotion, creating a sense of occasion that suited both the setting and the season beautifully.

Signing of the Register

During the signing, we performed:

  • Is This Love – Bob Marley (in a gentle cello & piano arrangement)
  • You Make Loving Fun – Fleetwood Mac

These lighter, joyful songs brought a relaxed feel to the ceremony’s final moments, allowing guests to enjoy the music while Alice and Ben took time to savour the moment.

Couple Exit

The ceremony concluded with Let There Be Love by Nat King Cole — a classic choice that felt effortlessly elegant and sent the newlyweds back down the aisle on a wave of warmth and smiles.

Drinks Reception Music at Horwood House

Immediately following the ceremony, guests moved into the connecting space between the ceremony room and the Manor Bar for the drinks reception, which ran from 1:30pm to 3:00pm.

For this part of the day, Alice and Ben were happy for us to take the lead musically, with just a few gentle guidelines:

  • no Disney,
  • no Lover by Taylor Swift (reserved as their first dance later),
  • a mix of genres,
  • and a few subtle winter touches.

They also asked for Fate of Ophelia, having heard our arrangement online — a piece that works particularly well in a relaxed, conversational setting.

The result was a flowing, varied set that moved naturally between modern favourites, softer classics, and seasonal accents, all shaped to support conversation and atmosphere rather than interrupt it.

This is where live musicians really shine — adjusting tempo, dynamics, and energy in real time as the room fills, glasses are raised, and conversations unfold.

Styling, Colour Palette & Atmosphere

The black-tie dress code, paired with forest green, gold, and white, gave the day a timeless winter elegance. The styling worked beautifully with Horwood House’s interiors, and the overall feel was refined without ever being formal for its own sake.

With a small bridal party — bridesmaid, flower girls, and maid of honour — the ceremony felt intimate and personal, perfectly matched to the scale of the venue and the live music.

Working with the Horwood House Team

As always, it was a pleasure working with the team at Horwood House Hotel. Our thanks go to Maisie and Freya for their coordination and support throughout the day, ensuring everything ran smoothly from arrival to departure.

With easy access, on-site parking, and well-planned spaces, the logistics were seamless — allowing us to focus entirely on the music.

Thank You, Alice & Ben

Thank you, Alice and Ben, for choosing JAM Duo to provide the live music for your wedding ceremony and drinks reception. Playing for your winter wedding at Horwood House was a genuine pleasure, and we loved being part of such a stylish and thoughtfully planned day.

We wish you both every happiness for the future and hope the music remains a cherished part of your memories.
