Some wedding venues are beautiful. Some are luxurious. And then there are venues like Grantley Hall, where everything feels on another level.
For Jade and Daniel’s wedding in North Yorkshire, JAM Duo provided live ceremony music for a stunning outdoor wedding on the lawns at Grantley Hall near Ripon. It was one of those settings which almost did not look real: immaculate lawns, pale chairs, cream florals, a white ceremony platform, blue sky, and a dedicated white circular stage just for the musicians.
It was elegant, polished and completely photogenic. In fact, with the beautiful styling, the open gardens and the carefully designed ceremony space, it felt almost fit for Vogue.
This was no ordinary wedding either. The groom was Daniel Barlaser, the professional footballer, whose career has included Middlesbrough and Hibernian. He is listed as a midfielder and, as of recent public profiles, has been with Hibernian on loan from Middlesbrough.
But beyond the setting and the profile of the wedding, what made the day so memorable for us was the sheer care that had gone into the ceremony.
A Luxury Wedding at Grantley Hall
Grantley Hall is one of the most prestigious wedding venues in North Yorkshire. Set near Ripon, the hotel describes itself as a 17th-century estate with 47 bedrooms and suites, several restaurants and bars, and extensive spa and wellness facilities.
It is a venue which blends historic grandeur with modern luxury. The house itself has real presence, but the grounds are just as important. Grantley Hall sits within 38 acres of gardens and grounds, and those outdoor spaces provide a spectacular setting for wedding photographs and ceremonies.
For weddings, Grantley Hall offers elegant indoor and outdoor options, with its own wedding information highlighting private-use possibilities, formal gardens and refined celebration spaces.
Jade and Daniel had planned an outdoor ceremony on the lawn, with the Music Room available as the wet-weather alternative. Fortunately, the weather was kind, and the ceremony took place outside exactly as planned.
An Outdoor Ceremony Almost Fit for Vogue
The ceremony setting was extraordinary.
The main ceremony area was arranged on the lawn, with rows of pale chairs facing a raised white platform covered in cream florals. The floral design was absolutely beautiful — soft, abundant and elegant, with large white and cream arrangements framing the ceremony space.
To the left of the main ceremony platform, we were given our own small white circular stage. This had clearly been considered as part of the overall design, rather than simply placing the musicians somewhere convenient.
That sort of detail makes a difference.
Live musicians are visually part of a wedding ceremony, especially outdoors. At some weddings, we are tucked discreetly to the side. At others, we are more visible. Here, the stage gave us a defined place within the ceremony design while still allowing the focus to remain entirely on Jade and Daniel.
We used our piano shell for this wedding, which fitted beautifully with the scale and styling of the occasion. Jade had asked us to wear black, partly because the groom and groomsmen were in black suits and partly because she felt black would work well against the white florals and the piano shell. She was absolutely right. Against the pale staging and cream flowers, the black outfits and piano shell gave a smart, classic contrast.
Working with the Sound Team
One of the important practical aspects of this wedding was integrating with the professional sound team.
At most weddings, JAM Duo bring our own sound system and manage everything ourselves. We are used to setting up independently, balancing the piano and cello, and making sure the music works for the ceremony, drinks reception or wedding breakfast.
For larger, more production-led weddings, there is sometimes a separate sound team involved. That was the case here.
The sound team were extremely helpful and linked our instruments into their system so the music could be carried properly across the outdoor ceremony area. Outdoor ceremonies often need careful sound planning, especially when there are around 95 guests and a large open lawn.
We fortunately had our own monitor speaker with us, which helped enormously. When musicians are plugged into a larger system, the sound the guests hear is not always the same as what we can hear on stage. A monitor allows us to hear ourselves clearly, stay together, and perform naturally.
It was a really good example of how professional suppliers can work together calmly and effectively. The best wedding days often depend on this kind of behind-the-scenes cooperation. Guests may not notice the technical details, but they certainly notice when everything feels smooth.
Guest Arrival Music
Jade and Daniel had chosen a lovely selection of pre-ceremony music for guests arriving on the lawn.

This was a very elegant pre-ceremony set, combining modern romantic songs with a few timeless wedding favourites.
Pre-ceremony music is one of those parts of the day which can easily be overlooked, but it makes a huge difference. Guests arrive, take their seats, look around the setting, and begin to settle into the atmosphere. At a venue like Grantley Hall, where the ceremony space itself was so visually striking, live music helped complete the scene.
The choices worked beautifully outdoors. Yellow has a warm, expansive feel. You’re Still the One brought a classic romantic quality. Iris is always hugely popular for weddings, particularly as a cello and piano arrangement. You Are the Reason has a natural emotional arc, while Canon in D and River Flows in You gave the set a more traditional and piano-led wedding feel.
Together, they created a calm, romantic atmosphere before the ceremony began.
Two Bridal Entrance Songs
Jade and Daniel had four bridesmaids and two flower girls, and they chose two separate entrance pieces for the bridal party and the bride.

This was a beautiful pairing.
Amazed is a classic romantic song and works very naturally as an instrumental arrangement. It has warmth and familiarity, and it gave the bridal party entrance a gentle, emotional feeling without being too understated.
For Jade’s entrance, Feels Like Home was a lovely choice. It is tender, intimate and heartfelt, with exactly the right kind of emotional directness for the bride’s arrival.
Using two songs for the entrance can be very effective, especially when there is a larger bridal party. The first piece gives space for the bridesmaids and flower girls to walk down the aisle, while the second marks the bride’s entrance as a distinct moment.
Because we play live, we can time this carefully. If the bridal party takes longer than expected, we can extend the music. If the bride is ready sooner, we can move naturally into the second piece. There is no awkward fade-out or fixed recording. The music follows the ceremony.
Signing Music
For the signing, Jade and Daniel chose:
All You Need Is Love – The Beatles
Rein Me In – Sam Fender and Olivia Dean
Unwritten – Natasha Bedingfield
They had also suggested Africa by Toto as an alternative if needed.
This was a lovely signing set because it brought a little more variety into the ceremony. All You Need Is Love is, of course, a classic wedding choice. It has that instantly recognisable warmth and optimism which suits a signing moment perfectly.
Rein Me In brought a more contemporary feel, linking nicely to the North East connection through Sam Fender. And Unwritten gave the signing a bright, upbeat finish.
The signing is often a more relaxed part of the ceremony. The couple are completing the formalities, guests are watching, and there is usually a little space for music to unfold. It is a good opportunity to include songs which feel personal but do not necessarily have to carry the full emotional weight of the bridal entrance.
Confetti Exit to 500 Miles
For their exit, Jade and Daniel chose:
I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) – The Proclaimers
This was timed with their confetti throw as they walked back up the aisle.
It was a brilliant choice.
Some ceremony exits are elegant and understated. Others are joyful and full of energy. This was very much the latter. After the beauty and formality of the ceremony, 500 Miles immediately lifted the atmosphere and gave everyone a reason to smile.
It also worked perfectly with the confetti moment. A confetti exit outdoors on the lawns at Grantley Hall, with guests cheering and the couple walking back through the aisle, needed something celebratory. This gave it exactly the right feel.
On cello and piano, 500 Miles keeps its instantly recognisable character, but with a slightly more polished wedding sound. It is fun without becoming rough around the edges — ideal for a luxury setting where the couple still want personality.
Music, Styling and Setting
What made this ceremony so striking was the way everything fitted together.
The venue was magnificent. The lawn was immaculate. The florals were soft, cream and abundant. The staging was clean and white. The guests were dressed beautifully. The groom and groomsmen wore black suits, while the bridesmaids were in pale yellow. Our own stage and piano shell were part of the visual composition rather than an afterthought.
This is something couples do not always think about when planning live music. The musicians are not only heard; they are also seen.
For a ceremony as carefully styled as Jade and Daniel’s, the visual side mattered. The white stage gave us a dedicated performance space, while the piano shell helped the music look as elegant as it sounded.
The result was a ceremony area that felt cohesive, considered and very high-end.
Outdoor Wedding Music at Grantley Hall
Outdoor wedding ceremonies are always special, but they do require a little more planning than indoor ceremonies.
Sound is the biggest consideration. Indoors, the room naturally contains and reflects the music. Outdoors, sound travels differently. There are no walls to support it, and wind, distance, guest numbers and the general size of the space all affect what people hear.
That is why it was so useful to work with the sound team for this wedding. By linking our instruments into their system, the music could carry properly across the ceremony area. At the same time, our own monitor meant we could hear clearly and perform comfortably.
Power, shade, access and staging also matter. For this wedding, the staging had been thought through beautifully. We had a clear, stable place to perform, which looked superb and allowed us to be fully part of the ceremony without getting in the way.
