When we arrived at Carlton Towers we found ourselves just behind the bride arriving in a beautiful horse drawn carriage. We held back to watch her arrive from a distance. Normally of course this would be a bit of an issue but today we were booked to play for just the wedding breakfast. So in fact had around 2 hours in which to set up and get ready!
The second thing we noticed on arriving at Carlton Towers was the presence of a helicopter on the front lawn. Apparently this had been the arrival vehicle for the groom and was also taking his groomsmen and others up on short flights during the drinks reception!
With plenty of time to set up for the wedding breakfast, on arrival we found a rather lovely cafe behind the main house. It turns out that Carlton Towers has quite an array of things to keep people entertained!

Time for Tea
Once we had set up for the wedding breakfast, there was still plenty of time so we found ourselves drawn to the Stables Tea Room.
We sat outside and had a lovely view of the vineyard in the afternoon sun.
Whilst the tea was lovely, we of course had a job to do, so made our way back to the main house so we were ready and tuned up in plenty of time for the arrival of the bride and groom.
With the speeches ahead of the meal, we played as the guests took their seats and then took another short break during the speeches.
One of the advantages of playing briefly while guests arrived was that it told us the noise levels were quite high. And so to ensure our music could be heard (whilst still remaining ambient and in the background) we did quickly switch over to the electric cello with a small PA system.
