The latest news suggests that Boris Johnson is set to lift the 30 person limit on weddings, even if the Jun 21 easing of lockdown is subsequently delayed further.
The UK Prime Minister, who married Carrie Simon’s on 29 May 2021 in a ceremony which was limited to just 30 attendees, has recently suggested that there will be relaxing of wedding restrictions this month.
Over the past 15 months or so many wedding couples have had to postpone their weddings due to restrictions in place. So for many this will come as good news, particularly those couples who have moved their wedding date several times already.
Of course until this is actually confirmed many thousands of brides to be will still be waiting in anticipation to see if their plans for larger scale weddings can go ahead. But, nevertheless, for an industry which has struggled under very tight restrictions since early 202, even the suggestion of good news will be very welcome.
On his arrival in Cornwall for the G7 summit Boris Johnson was asked about weddings, particularly given the daily cases of Coronavirus are increasing, although not dramatically.
“On Monday… we’ll have a look at where we are. I think what ev erybody can see very clearly is that cases are going up, and in some cases hospitalisations are going up. What we need to assess is the extent to which the vaccine rollout, which has been phenomenal, has built up protection in the population in order for us to go ahead to the next stage. And so that’s what we’ll be looking at.”

The Prime Minister has come in for a lot of criticism by some in the wedding industry for allowing sports stadiums full of people, whilst weddings, even outdoors, have had limits on the number of guests.
Of course we shall have to wait until Monday to find out what actually transpires, but for now and for many this certainly gives a renewed hope for weddings being able to proceed throughout the Summer of 2021.
