The Wedding

Nina and Matt
Farnham House Hotel, Farnham, Surrey
14 August 2021

Today’s wedding took us down the M4 to the lovely town of Farnham in Surrey. There, we soon found Farnham House Hotel and were greeted by Matt (the groom).

Music for the Wedding Ceremony

Our first involvement in Matt and Nina’s wedding was to play as guests arrived for the ceremony. This was taking place inside at the hotel. Once we had set up, we took the opportunity to take a couple of profile photographs for our social media pages. Anne-Marie’s lovely dress from Laura Ashley caused quite a stir and she had lots of lovely comments!

Nina, looking stunning, made her entrance to Canon in D by Johann Pachelbel. This is probably our most popular classical piece and we love the arrangement we have by the Brooklyn Duo. On this occasion we didn’t get to play much of it as Nina was soon stood in front of the registrar, preceded by her lovely bridesmaids.

Music for the Drinks Reception

Initially we were advised by the hotel wedding planner to set up in a corner of the hotel main entrance for the purpose of the drinks reception. However this was quite a cramped space and, although near the bar, it was soon apparent that all the guests were going outside.

This is generally what happens as the photographer takes advantage of this time to get all the group shots and so, weather dependent, outside is generally the best place.

Luckily for us this isn’t a problem. We simply moved everything outside and used our silent generator to power the keyboard. We also have a small speaker just to boost the sound of our instruments whilst outside. We don’t like to think of this as a PA system (although we do have that capability too) but more just a bit of sound reinforcement.

Music for the Wedding Breakfast

Today we were privileged to share most of the day with Matt and Nina as we had also agreed to play for their wedding breakfast. There wasn’t a lot of room but we found a corner to set up. Back indoors, no amplification was needed and we had also been asked by Matt to play a short fanfare on the cello at the point he got up to give his speech.

Noting the theme was based on New York – we believe this is where Matt and Nina met, we struck up with the opening bars from ‘New York, New York’, which seemed to work!

We did however wonder why everyone kept going round behind the wedding cake… Turns out that Matt apparently wanted a spider man cake, but presumably didnt get permission for this from his lovely bride to be (seems fair enough!). So a small token gesture was added to the cake….

We really enjoyed playing a part in Matt and Nina’s wedding. We wish them the very best for their married life together.
