On Thursday evening, JAM Duo were invited to perform at the DMRC Stanford Hall, for a Miltary Dinner Night, preceded by a Drinks Reception
This was the first time in 18 months that the regiment had met for a formal dinner, so there was much anticipation and excitement. JAM Duo began with some upbeat tracks during the champagne reception to add to the atmosphere – popular songs by Sia, Lady Gaga and some upbeat jazz numbers such as Misty and All the Things You are went down well with the guests.
The Military Dinner
For the meal, we relocated to the formal dining room where we played through dinner, a selection of light jazz, and popular songs were again the order of the day.
JAM Duo were positioned centre stage during the dinner at one end of the room. There was a rather good acoustic and with some discreet amplification of the Cello we were able to create a perfect level of background ambience.
It’s not every day you get to perform in front of portraits of the Queen and Prince Philip. Indeed the whole evening performance was an honour for us. The personnel at DNRC were so accommodating and welcoming. We even got a formal thank you at the end of the dinner.
We were particularly amused by the instruction just prior to the serving of dessert which said ‘Dessert No Hands’! Well you can imagine what ensued. Lots of people proceeded to find ways of eating their dessert just using their mouths. Others found ingenious ways of holding a spoon…. I’m fairly sure we have come across this at other similar events so it must be a military ‘thing’. Nevertheless it amused us greatly – and serves as a reminder that even in the most formal of situations, there is room for a little light hearted fun!
JAM Duo at your Miltary Event
Sometimes we have to pinch ourselves to remind us that we are here in an official capacity and ‘working’. It’s one thing to enjoy your job but JAM Duo for us is way more than a job. It is a vocation and it is something we are both every proud of.
Every gig, every wedding, every corporate dinner is just as important. Our job is to bring beautiful music to your occasion no matter where you are in the UK and no matter the type of event. As a cello and piano duo we are best suited to scenarios where a stylish ambience is required. For a formal dinner, private party or wedding drinks reception, our blended sound is perfect.
