JAM Duo – Cello and Piano Wedding Musicians

Last weekend took us north to one of the Lake District’s most exquisite settings – the breathtaking Town Head Estatenear Windermere. On Saturday 8 November 2025 we had the absolute pleasure of providing music for Alice and Darren’s wedding, a day filled with love, laughter, and those quiet, timeless moments that make performing at weddings so special.

A Morning in the Lakes

We always like to arrive with plenty of time to spare, and on this occasion we found ourselves with a beautiful clear morning and the rare luxury of a stroll before setting up. Just a short distance from Town Head Estate is Foot Fell, a National Trust beauty spot overlooking Lake Windermere. The views across the water were spectacular, the air crisp, and the trees glowing in autumn golds and russet tones – a perfect start to a wedding day in the Lakes.

The Setting – Town Head Estate

Town Head Estate combines all the rustic charm of a traditional Cumbrian stone barn with elegant contemporary touches. The ceremony space, located upstairs in the Barn, is simply stunning – thick stone walls, oak beams, and soft fairy-lights that give the whole room a romantic, intimate glow. At one end, the floral arch framed the window perfectly, with natural arrangements of ferns, hydrangeas, and wild greenery echoing the November landscape outside.

Downstairs, a heated marquee adjoins the bar area, creating a wonderfully cosy yet light-filled space for the drinks reception. It’s always a joy to play at venues that look after their musicians so well – the Town Head team couldn’t have been more accommodating, helping us with chairs, refreshments, and a seamless transition between ceremony and reception.

Setting Up for the Ceremony

For Alice and Darren’s ceremony we positioned ourselves at the rear of the Barn, with the sound carrying beautifully along the wooden floor and stone walls. The acoustic in that space is remarkable – natural resonance that perfectly complements the warmth of Anne-Marie’s Yamaha electric cello and the clarity of our Nord Stage piano, all subtly enhanced through our Yamaha sound system.

Although we often bring our gloss-black piano shell for larger spaces, this time the natural character of the Barn suited a more intimate setup, keeping the focus entirely on the music and the couple.

Ceremony Music

Alice and Darren had a lovely selection of music that blended modern elegance with cinematic beauty – a perfect match for the venue’s atmosphere.

Pre-Ceremony:
From the moment guests began taking their seats, we played a gentle collection inspired by Bridgerton:

  • How Deep Is Your Love
  • Bridgerton Theme
  • Strange
  • Wildest Dreams
  • Yellow

These arrangements always sound wonderful on cello and piano, creating that quietly expectant tone as everyone waits for the bridal party to arrive.

Bridal Entrance:
The bridesmaids entered to Ludovico Einaudi’s “I Giorni,” its calm lyricism setting a beautiful mood. Then, as Alice appeared with her father, we moved seamlessly into the Theme from Jurassic Park – an epic, cinematic choice that filled the Barn with emotion. Watching her walk down the aisle to that sweeping melody was truly magical.

Signing of the Register:
During the signing, we performed Glasgow Theme (from Love Actually) followed by She (Elvis Costello) – two romantic favourites that always resonate with guests.

Couple’s Exit:
For their joyful recessional, Alice and Darren chose Brown Eyed Girl, which gave everyone a reason to smile as applause and laughter echoed through the Barn.

Drinks Reception in the Marquee

After the ceremony, guests moved downstairs into the heated marquee adjoining the bar. With its chandeliers, clear roof, and views out towards the autumn trees, it was a perfect continuation of the day. We quickly relocated our instruments and were ready within minutes to provide a full 90-minute set of live music as guests enjoyed drinks and canapés.

Alice had chosen a brilliant mix of upbeat songs – some romantic, some nostalgic, and all fantastic fun to play.

Drinks Reception Set – Highlights:

  • Africa – Toto
  • Pink Pony Club – Chappell Roan
  • Dreams – The Cranberries
  • All the Small Things – Blink-182
  • Crazy Little Thing Called Love – Queen
  • Dancing in the Moonlight – Toploader
  • Halo – Beyoncé
  • Love Story – Taylor Swift
  • A Sky Full of Stars – Coldplay
  • Starlight – Muse
  • Still the One – Shania Twain
  • Accidentally in Love – Counting Crows
  • Feeling Good – Nina Simone
  • Chandelier – Sia
  • This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) – Natalie Cole

It’s always wonderful to see how guests respond to the live sound of cello and piano – there’s a warmth and vibrancy that recorded playlists simply can’t replicate. By the time we reached Dancing in the Moonlight and Still the One, people were quietly singing along at their tables, the atmosphere relaxed and full of joy.

Style and Atmosphere

Alice looked radiant in her elegant white gown and faux-fur wrap, carrying a bouquet of fresh whites and greens. The bridesmaids’ dark-green dresses added a luxurious, wintery tone that worked perfectly against the Barn’s stone walls and wooden textures, while the groomsmen’s navy-blue suits tied the palette together beautifully.

The whole look was timeless – a thoughtful monochrome scheme with deep green accents that felt both modern and classic, perfectly suited to an early-November wedding in the Lakes.

Reflections on the Day

From a musician’s perspective, Town Head Estate is an absolute delight to perform at. The staff are attentive, the logistics are easy, and each space has its own distinctive acoustic character. The ceremony room upstairs lends itself to resonant, emotional playing, while the marquee below offers a bright, open environment for lively sets during the reception.

We’re always impressed by how smoothly the venue team manage transitions between parts of the day – especially important for live musicians who need to move equipment discreetly between spaces. Our Yamaha PA system performed perfectly, giving crystal-clear sound throughout without ever overpowering the natural ambience of conversation.

The Lake District in November

There’s something incredibly special about weddings in the Lake District as autumn turns to winter. The landscape seems to wrap itself around the occasion – mist rising off the fells, the deep hues of the trees, and the sense of peace that lingers by the water. It makes a fitting backdrop for music that’s both emotional and cinematic.

Performing in such a location reminds us why we love what we do. Every wedding feels unique, but there’s a shared thread that runs through all of them – the way live music shapes emotion, heightens moments, and becomes part of a couple’s memory of the day.

Our Thanks

We’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to Alice and Darren for inviting JAM Duo to be part of your celebration. It was an honour to provide the soundtrack to such a joyful and beautifully planned day.

Our thanks also go to the team at Town Head Estate, who made everything effortless from start to finish – a venue we’d recommend wholeheartedly to any couple looking for an elegant Lake District setting with superb hospitality.
