As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, there’s something undeniably special about winter weddings. The soft glow of candlelight, the shimmer of fairy lights against frosty windows, and the quiet sense of stillness that only winter brings — it all creates a setting filled with romance and intimacy.
For us, winter weddings have a kind of magic all their own. Whether the ceremony takes place in a grand country house or a rustic barn surrounded by twinkling lights, the atmosphere always feels deeply personal. And for JAM Duo, creating the soundtrack to those moments — with the gentle blend of cello and piano — is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.
Music that warms the heart (even when it’s snowing outside)
While summer weddings often have an open, airy feel, winter ceremonies invite something richer and more reflective. The music becomes part of the warmth — it fills the space with texture and emotion, wrapping guests in sound just as much as the venue wraps them in candlelight.
For a winter ceremony, we often adapt our setlist to suit the mood: elegant arrangements of “A Thousand Years,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” or “Everglow” work beautifully when paired with the soft resonance of the cello. Even classical favourites like Pachelbel’s Canon or Salut d’Amour take on new depth when played against the backdrop of a glowing fireplace or an afternoon that fades gently into dusk.
Coombe Lodge, Blagdon — a winter setting full of charm
One of our favourite winter weddings took place at Coombe Lodge in Blagdon, a beautiful Somerset venue that seems made for the season. Nestled in the Mendip Hills, its grand interiors and sweeping views over the valley provided the perfect backdrop for a December ceremony.
Inside, flickering candles lined the aisle and a soft haze of winter light filled the room. We performed a mix of classic and contemporary music — a combination that perfectly matched the couple’s timeless yet modern style. There’s something wonderful about hearing a song like “Sky Full of Stars” performed live in a setting so peaceful and refined.
For us, Coombe Lodge encapsulates everything we love about winter weddings: elegance, warmth, and a sense of occasion that feels truly special.

Stone Barn, Cotswolds — rustic winter beauty
Another highlight was Stone Barn, tucked away in the Cotswolds. With its exposed stone walls, roaring fire, and soft candlelight, it’s the epitome of winter wedding charm.
Here, we played for both the ceremony and drinks reception, moving seamlessly between spaces as guests gathered around the fire with mulled wine and laughter. The cello’s mellow tone felt completely at home in that setting — rich, natural, and deeply emotive.
Our music included pieces by Coldplay, Taylor Swift, and The Beatles, all carefully arranged for cello and piano. Even upbeat songs take on a beautiful, romantic quality when played acoustically.

Why live music makes winter weddings unforgettable
Recorded music can fill a room — but live music fills a moment. It reacts, breathes, and moves with your ceremony. When we play during a winter wedding, we’re not just following a playlist; we’re matching every note to the emotion of the room.
The sound of live cello and piano has a warmth that speakers can’t replicate. It’s human and heartfelt — the way a bow draws across a string, or a piano note fades naturally into silence, carries emotion that feels alive.
At winter weddings, where the focus is so often on intimacy and atmosphere, that authenticity matters more than ever. Whether we’re playing softly as guests arrive, or building to that first swell of music as the bride walks down the aisle, we know those sounds will be part of memories that last a lifetime.
Creating your perfect winter soundtrack
Choosing your wedding music is a deeply personal decision — especially for a winter wedding. You might want to lean into the season’s rich tones with cinematic pieces, or bring a hint of sparkle with romantic pop ballads.
Over the years, we’ve built a library of more than 340 recordings to help couples find inspiration. From Taylor Swift and Coldplay to Einaudi and Elgar, we can tailor the perfect blend for your ceremony, drinks reception, or wedding breakfast. If your song isn’t on our listen page – no problem we have a library of over 18,000 scores and can play anything at all.
Our aim is always to create something that reflects you — your story, your style, and the atmosphere you want to share with your guests.
Winter venues we love
There are so many venues across the UK that lend themselves beautifully to a winter celebration. Places with soft lighting, historic architecture, or countryside views often make the perfect backdrop for our cello and piano duo.
Over recent years, we’ve played in everything from elegant manor houses to converted barns and cosy chapels. What ties them all together is the atmosphere — that feeling of togetherness, where music, light, and emotion blend into one unforgettable moment.
A few favourite pieces for winter weddings
If you’re looking for inspiration, here are a few songs that work beautifully during the colder months:
- “A Thousand Years” – Christina Perri
- “Everglow” – Coldplay
- “Perfect” – Ed Sheeran
- “Canon in D” – Pachelbel
- “River Flows in You” – Yiruma
- “Your Song” – Elton John
- “All of Me” – John Legend
- “Love Theme” – Love Actually (Craig Armstrong)
Each one can be arranged for cello and piano — and each brings its own character to your day, from the gentle intimacy of a candlelit ceremony to the joyous moment you walk back up the aisle as a married couple.
Final thoughts — the warmth of music in a winter setting
There’s a saying that “music gives soul to the universe,” and nowhere is that more true than at a winter wedding. When the world outside is quiet and still, live music becomes the heartbeat of the day — lifting spirits, deepening emotion, and creating memories that feel timeless.
For us, being part of those moments is always a privilege. Every winter wedding feels unique — not just because of the music we play, but because of the people, the atmosphere, and the love that fills the room.
If you’re planning a winter wedding and would like to talk about how live music could make your day even more special, we’d love to hear from you.
