Ceremony, Drinks Reception & Wedding Breakfast Music by JAM Duo
December weddings always seem to carry an extra sense of warmth. Perhaps it’s the season, or perhaps it’s the way guests instinctively lean into the intimacy of being indoors together, sharing music, conversation, and celebration. Hannah and Stuart’s wedding at Woodhall Hotel & Spa was a perfect example of that winter atmosphere done beautifully well.
We were delighted to provide live cello and piano music for the entire daytime journey of their wedding – from the ceremony, through the drinks reception, and back into the room again for the wedding breakfast. Everything took place inside the hotel, allowing the day to flow seamlessly from one moment to the next.
A stylish winter wedding look
Before a single note was played, the visual styling of the day set a clear tone. Hannah was joined by seven bridesmaids, all dressed in rich forest and bottle green dresses that felt perfectly suited to a December wedding. The depth of colour worked beautifully against the softer interiors of the hotel.
Stuart and his groomsmen wore brown tweed-style suits – a choice that added warmth and texture, and subtly echoed the winter setting. The parents’ outfits were equally considered: the groom’s parents in navy, and the bride’s mother in a striking navy and pink combination that added a touch of contrast and personality.
Together, it created a look that was confident, seasonal, and completely timeless.
Music woven through the whole day
One of the things we loved most about Hannah and Stuart’s plans was how intentionally music was woven through the entire daytime experience. Rather than treating music as something confined to one part of the day, they saw it as a thread that gently connected each stage – something we always encourage couples to think about.
The ceremony and wedding breakfast took place in the same room, which gave a wonderful sense of continuity. Between the two, we relocated to the bar area for the drinks reception, before returning to the main space as guests were seated for the meal.
Pre-ceremony music: calm, modern, and welcoming
As guests arrived and took their seats, we played a carefully chosen mix of contemporary and cinematic songs, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
The pre-ceremony music included:
- Sweet Disposition
- A Thousand Years
- Pure Imagination
- Birds of a Feather
- Kiss Me
This selection struck a lovely balance – familiar without being predictable, emotional without feeling heavy. It allowed the room to settle, conversations to soften, and anticipation to build naturally.
A cinematic entrance for the bridal party
For the processional, Hannah and Stuart chose a beautifully structured musical journey.
The bridesmaids entered to Romantic Flight from How to Train Your Dragon. This piece works exceptionally well for bridal parties: it has motion, warmth, and a sense of excitement without overpowering the moment. With seven bridesmaids, it gave the entrance shape and flow, carrying the eye and ear gently towards the main event.
Hannah then entered to Bittersweet Symphony. Performed live on cello and piano, it felt expansive and emotional, yet grounded. The familiar melody filled the room without dominating it, allowing Hannah’s entrance to remain the focus while the music subtly elevated the moment.
Signing the register: light and joyful
For the signing of the register, the mood lifted slightly with two joyful, relaxed choices:
- Accidentally in Love
- Ordinary
Signing music plays an important role in maintaining atmosphere during what can otherwise feel like a pause. These songs kept the room engaged and smiling, bridging the ceremony beautifully towards its conclusion.
A classic exit: Here Comes the Sun
Hannah and Stuart chose Here Comes the Sun for their couple exit – a song that feels endlessly appropriate for weddings. There was something especially fitting about hearing it in December: a reminder of optimism, warmth, and the sense of a new chapter beginning.
As they walked back down the aisle together, the mood in the room shifted unmistakably from ceremony to celebration.

Drinks reception in the bar area
Following the ceremony, guests moved into the bar area for drinks while we relocated and continued playing live music. This part of the day is all about atmosphere – encouraging conversation, laughter, and relaxed celebration without ever feeling like a performance.
Hannah and Stuart’s drinks reception music was wonderfully eclectic, reflecting a wide range of tastes and generations. Highlights included:
- Pink Pony Club
- You’ll Be in My Heart
- Unwritten
- Girl on Fire
- Sweet Child O’ Mine
- Everywhere
- I’m in Love With You
- As It Was
- Christmas Is All Around
- Africa
- Marry You
- Firestone
Alongside these were broader requests for artists such as Sam Fender, Fleetwood Mac, and music from Hamilton and The Greatest Showman. This flexibility is one of the great strengths of live cello and piano – the sound remains cohesive even as styles shift.
Returning for the wedding breakfast
As guests were invited back into the main room for the wedding breakfast, Hannah and Stuart made their entrance to Better Together. It was a perfect choice: warm, relaxed, and instantly setting the tone for a joyful meal rather than a formal one.
The brief for the wedding breakfast music was clear – start gently, then gradually build energy as the meal progressed, preparing guests for the evening celebrations to come.
Building the energy through the meal
Throughout the wedding breakfast, we shaped the music carefully, beginning with reflective and romantic songs before moving towards more upbeat, feel-good choices.
Early moments included:
- Chasing Cars
- Beneath Your Beautiful
- Lovely
- Video Games
- Tale as Old as Time
- Tenerife Sea
- If I Ain’t Got You
- You’re Still the One
As the meal progressed, the atmosphere lifted with:
- Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)
- Golden Hour
- Real Love
- Seasons of Love
- Another Love
- Dancing in the Moonlight
- Mr Brightside
- Girls Like You
- Eye of the Tiger
By the end of the meal, the room felt energised and ready to transition effortlessly into the evening reception – exactly as Hannah and Stuart had hoped.
A venue that truly looks after its couples (and suppliers)
Woodhall Hotel is part of the Hand Picked Hotels collection, and it really shows. The service throughout the day was warm, professional, and thoughtful, making the logistics of moving between spaces feel easy and unhurried.
As musicians, we always appreciate venues that understand the flow of a wedding day and support live music properly – and Woodhall Hotel did exactly that.
