There are some weddings where the logistics behind the scenes become almost as memorable as the wedding itself.
Laura and Bartek’s wedding at Blakelands Country House was definitely one of those days.
From the guest perspective, everything flowed beautifully — live music in the ceremony room upstairs, relaxed drinks reception music outdoors, followed by elegant piano and cello during the wedding breakfast back upstairs once again.
From our perspective behind the scenes… this involved some of the most physically demanding venue transitions we have tackled in quite some time.
Narrow staircases.
Very steep access.
Multiple location changes.
And another full piano shell disassembly — twice during the day — before eventually carrying everything back downstairs again at the end of the evening.
But despite all of that, we genuinely loved this wedding.
Laura and Bartek were absolutely wonderful to work with from start to finish, the atmosphere throughout the day was warm and relaxed, and we left incredibly grateful not only for their kindness but also for the thoughtful gifts they gave us at the end of the evening, including chocolates and champagne, which was such a generous gesture.
It was a pleasure to be part of their wedding day and we wish them both every happiness for the future.
A Relaxed and Elegant Wedding at Blakelands Country House
Set in the countryside near Bobbington, Blakelands Country House created a beautiful setting for Laura and Bartek’s wedding celebrations.
With around 53 guests attending, the day had a wonderfully balanced atmosphere — intimate enough to feel personal and connected, while still creating that sense of occasion and celebration throughout the venue.
Their blue and grey colour palette suited the venue beautifully and helped create an elegant, timeless feel across the day.
One of the things we particularly enjoyed about this wedding was the relaxed trust Laura and Bartek placed in us musically. While they selected several key songs for important moments in the ceremony, they were also very happy for us to shape much of the atmosphere ourselves throughout the drinks reception and wedding breakfast.
That flexibility always allows live music to feel especially natural across a wedding day because we can respond to the mood and energy in real time.

Live Music for the Indoor Ceremony Upstairs
The ceremony took place upstairs inside the house, requiring our first major setup transition of the day.
Now, moving a full piano shell setup upstairs via narrow and steep staircases is never especially straightforward.
Unlike a simple keyboard setup, the piano shell is designed to create the appearance and elegance of a grand piano while maintaining the flexibility and reliability of our live performance system. It looks stunning once in place — but getting it there can sometimes be a challenge in older country house venues where staircases were not exactly designed with modern wedding suppliers in mind.
At Blakelands Country House, this meant fully dismantling the piano shell before carefully transporting every section upstairs individually.
Then rebuilding everything completely in the ceremony room.
Once assembled though, the room looked beautiful and created a wonderfully elegant atmosphere for the ceremony itself.
For the pre-ceremony music, Laura and Bartek requested a classic style selection and trusted us to shape the atmosphere for guest arrival music.
This is something we always enjoy doing. Classical piano and cello works beautifully during guest seating because it creates sophistication and anticipation without ever overpowering conversation.
Laura then made her entrance to the timeless “Canon in D” by Johann Pachelbel — one of the most enduringly popular bridal entrance pieces for good reason. The flowing structure and emotional lift of the music works beautifully for live piano and cello and suited the atmosphere of the room perfectly.
For the signing music, the couple chose something rather different:
- “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica
which translated beautifully into an instrumental arrangement.
One of the things we love about modern weddings is the freedom couples now have to include music that genuinely reflects their personalities and relationship rather than simply following convention. Songs from rock bands, film scores, television themes and contemporary artists often become some of the most memorable live arrangements of the day.
Laura and Bartek then exited the ceremony to “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake, instantly lifting the atmosphere and transitioning the day naturally into celebrations and drinks outside.
Then Everything Went Back Downstairs…
Following the ceremony, guests moved downstairs and outdoors for the drinks reception.
Which meant one thing for us.
The piano shell had to come apart all over again.
Every panel.
Every component.
Every cable.
Carefully carried back downstairs via the same narrow and steep staircases before being fully rebuilt outside for the next part of the wedding day.
These are the moments where experience and teamwork really matter for wedding suppliers. Timing remains absolutely critical during weddings and there is very little room for delays between one part of the day and the next.
Guests simply expect the music to continue seamlessly as the celebrations move location.
That is exactly what we ensured happened here.
Once fully rebuilt outdoors, the atmosphere changed completely from the formality of the ceremony room to a far more relaxed and social drinks reception setting.
Laura and Bartek were very happy for us to shape the music throughout this part of the day, while also requesting some more contemporary material and asking us to include some Dermot Kennedy during the celebrations.
This kind of flexibility works beautifully for live wedding music because it allows us to read the atmosphere naturally as guests relax after the ceremony.
Outdoor drinks receptions are often one of our favourite parts of a wedding day because the music becomes woven into the atmosphere rather than simply attached to a formal moment. Guests chat, laugh, move around the gardens and enjoy the surroundings while the live music helps maintain warmth and energy across the entire space.
Back Upstairs Again for the Wedding Breakfast
And then…
Everything went back upstairs once more.
By this point, we had become extremely familiar with the staircases at Blakelands Country House.
For the wedding breakfast and speeches, the piano shell had to be dismantled for a second time before being carried carefully back upstairs and rebuilt yet again for the meal.
This is one of those realities of live wedding entertainment that couples rarely see happening behind the scenes. From the guest perspective, the music simply appears elegantly in each new location throughout the day.
The logistical effort involved to make that happen is often enormous.
But once fully rebuilt upstairs for the wedding breakfast, the room looked fantastic and the atmosphere throughout dinner was lovely.
Laura and Bartek once again trusted us to shape much of the music during the meal, allowing us to create a relaxed mix of elegant contemporary arrangements, film music, classical crossover and modern love songs suited to the atmosphere of the room.
Wedding breakfast music is all about balance. It should enhance the space and create warmth while still allowing conversation to flow naturally between guests.
Live piano and cello works particularly well during meals because it adds sophistication and atmosphere without ever becoming intrusive.
A Wonderful Couple to Work With
What stayed with us most from this wedding though was simply how kind and appreciative Laura and Bartek were throughout the day.
Weddings involving complex logistics can sometimes feel stressful behind the scenes for suppliers, particularly when multiple room moves and rebuilds are involved. But Laura and Bartek were so relaxed, warm and appreciative from beginning to end that it genuinely made the entire experience enjoyable despite the physical workload involved.
The fact that Bartek’s Polish background also brought a lovely international element to the celebrations added to the atmosphere of the day as well. Weddings where families and guests come together from different backgrounds often create such a warm and memorable atmosphere.
At the end of the evening, after we had completed our final performance and started the process of carrying everything back downstairs yet again, the couple very kindly presented us with gifts including chocolates and champagne as a thank you.
Gestures like that are never expected, but they are always deeply appreciated.
They also arranged a fantastic supplier meal for us before we headed home, which was another incredibly thoughtful part of the day and very much appreciated after the amount of lifting and rebuilding involved throughout the wedding.
Why Professionalism Matters Behind the Scenes
Weddings like Laura and Bartek’s are a reminder that professional live wedding entertainment involves far more than simply performing music.
It involves:
- Logistics
- Timing
- Adaptability
- Venue coordination
- Problem solving
- Calmness under pressure
- Physical setup management
Every venue is different and every wedding presents its own challenges.
At Blakelands Country House, those challenges largely involved staircases and repeated setup transitions. But ultimately none of that mattered to the guests — and that is exactly how it should be.
Our role is to ensure the music feels seamless throughout the entire wedding day regardless of what is happening operationally behind the scenes.
And despite the multiple piano shell rebuilds, the steep staircases and the countless journeys up and down throughout the day, we genuinely finished this wedding smiling.
It was an absolute pleasure to provide live music for Laura and Bartek’s wedding and we wish them both a wonderful future together.
