There are some weddings where every detail feels deeply personal, and Heather and Adam’s beautiful wedding at Brig O’ Doon House Hotel in Ayrshire was certainly one of them.

From the moment guests began arriving, it was clear this was going to be a wedding centred around faith, family and meaningful music. With a ceremony filled with hymns, Christian worship songs and heartfelt moments, it was a privilege for us to provide the live music throughout the day.

We were delighted to perform for both the ceremony and drinks reception, helping to create the soundtrack for a truly memorable celebration at one of Scotland’s most iconic wedding venues.

Brig O’ Doon House Hotel – One of Scotland’s Most Beautiful Wedding Venues

Located in the historic village of Alloway on the outskirts of Ayr, Brig O’ Doon House Hotel is one of Scotland’s best-known wedding venues.

The venue takes its name from the famous Brig o’ Doon bridge, immortalised by Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns. The bridge sits just a short walk from the hotel and provides one of the most recognisable and romantic backdrops in the country.

Brig O’ Doon House Hotel combines traditional Scottish character with elegant modern hospitality. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and mature trees, the venue feels peaceful and secluded whilst remaining easily accessible for guests travelling from across Scotland and beyond.

One of the things we particularly enjoy about performing at Brig O’ Doon is the variety of spaces available throughout the day. The ceremony rooms feel intimate and welcoming, while the bar and reception areas provide an excellent atmosphere for drinks receptions and celebrations.

The venue also benefits from experienced wedding staff who understand the importance of smooth transitions throughout the day. As musicians, we always appreciate venues where logistics are carefully considered, and Brig O’ Doon consistently delivers in this regard.

For couples looking for a romantic Ayrshire wedding venue with excellent food, beautiful surroundings and plenty of character, it’s easy to understand why Brig O’ Doon remains such a popular choice.

Arriving at Brig O’ Doon

Our journey to Ayrshire was rewarded with a warm welcome and a venue that was already beginning to buzz with anticipation.

Heather and Adam had around 60 guests joining them for the celebrations, creating a lovely balance between intimacy and atmosphere.

The wedding colour scheme featured soft lilac and cream tones, which complemented both the venue and the spring setting beautifully. Those subtle colours created a timeless elegance that worked perfectly throughout the day.

As always, we arrived in plenty of time to set up before guests began arriving.

For this wedding we used our regular daytime setup featuring Jules on the Nord Stage Piano and Anne-Marie on Yamaha electric cello. We didn’t use our piano shell on this occasion, which suited both the ceremony room and drinks reception spaces perfectly.

The flexibility of this setup allows us to move easily between locations whilst still delivering the full JAM Duo sound that couples know and love.

Music Before the Ceremony

One of the things that immediately stood out about Heather and Adam’s wedding was the importance that music played throughout the ceremony.

Many weddings include a handful of meaningful songs, but this celebration was built around music from beginning to end.

As guests arrived and took their seats, we performed a selection of Christian worship songs and hymns chosen by the couple:

  • Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me
  • Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus
  • Here I Am To Worship
  • Jesus Paid It All
  • Blessed Assurance

Pre-ceremony music often goes unnoticed because guests are busy greeting friends and finding their seats. However, it plays a huge role in setting the atmosphere.

By the time the ceremony officially begins, the music has already helped establish the tone for the entire occasion.

In this case, the worship-focused selections created a calm, reflective and joyful atmosphere that perfectly reflected Heather and Adam’s faith.

A Beautiful Bridal Entrance

Few moments during a wedding day carry as much emotion as the bridal entrance.

Heather and Adam made a particularly thoughtful choice by selecting two separate pieces of music for the processional.

The bridesmaids entered to How Great Thou Art before the music transitioned into In Christ Alone for Heather’s entrance.

This is exactly the kind of moment where live musicians can make a real difference.

Rather than stopping one track and starting another, we were able to create a seamless musical transition between the two pieces, allowing the moment to unfold naturally.

As Heather made her way down the aisle, surrounded by family and friends, the atmosphere in the room became wonderfully emotional.

These are often the moments couples remember most vividly years later.

Hymns During the Ceremony

One of the most distinctive aspects of this wedding was the inclusion of congregational singing during the ceremony itself.

Many couples love the idea of involving their guests in a meaningful way, and singing together remains one of the most powerful ways of doing that.

For Heather and Adam’s wedding, guests joined together in singing:

  • Here Is Love Vast As The Ocean
  • How Deep The Father’s Love For Us

Jules accompanied both hymns live on the piano, helping support the congregation and ensuring everyone could sing confidently.

Live accompaniment gives hymns a natural flexibility that simply isn’t possible with recorded music. The tempo can follow the singers, dynamics can be adjusted in real time, and the music becomes part of the ceremony rather than simply background to it.

There was something particularly moving about hearing the entire room singing together.

Moments like these often become some of the most memorable parts of a wedding ceremony because everyone present becomes actively involved.

Music During the Signing of the Register

The signing of the register provides a wonderful opportunity for live musicians to continue the atmosphere whilst guests relax and enjoy the moment.

For this part of the ceremony, Heather and Adam selected:

  • Amazing Grace
  • Great Is Thy Faithfulness
  • Before The Throne Of God Above

Each piece reflected the overall tone of the ceremony and reinforced the personal significance that faith played throughout the day.

The signing section is often longer than guests expect, making live music particularly valuable. Rather than silence or a single recorded track on repeat, couples can enjoy a flowing musical backdrop that keeps the atmosphere warm and engaging.

A Joyful Recessional

Once the ceremony was complete and the newly married couple were announced, it was time for one of our favourite moments of the day.

Heather and Adam exited to Leaning On The Everlasting Arms.

This joyful and uplifting piece provided the perfect soundtrack as the couple walked back down the aisle together as husband and wife.

The contrast between the emotion of the entrance and the celebration of the exit is always one of the highlights of any wedding ceremony.

By this point, guests are smiling, applauding and eager to congratulate the newlyweds.

The music helps amplify that sense of celebration and excitement.

Moving to the Drinks Reception

Following the ceremony, guests made their way through to the drinks reception whilst we relocated to the bar area.

One of the advantages of our Nord piano and electric cello setup is the speed and flexibility with which we can move between locations.

Within a short period of time, we were ready to continue the music as guests enjoyed drinks, photographs and conversations.

The drinks reception is often where the atmosphere of a wedding really begins to develop.

The formalities of the ceremony have concluded, guests can relax, and the celebrations begin in earnest.

This is where live music can have a huge impact.

Rather than competing with conversation, our arrangements are designed to complement the atmosphere, creating energy and warmth whilst still allowing guests to chat comfortably.

Christian Music Meets Contemporary Love Songs

Heather and Adam requested a mixture of Christian hymns alongside romantic and contemporary love songs during the drinks reception.

This combination worked beautifully.

Throughout the afternoon we moved naturally between worship music, traditional hymn melodies and well-known love songs, creating a varied musical backdrop that reflected both the couple’s faith and their personalities.

One of the reasons couples choose JAM Duo is the flexibility of our repertoire.

Whilst some musicians work from a fixed song list, we regularly perform music from a huge range of styles including:

  • Classical music
  • Contemporary worship music
  • Traditional hymns
  • Film music
  • Pop music
  • Rock music
  • Musical theatre
  • Jazz standards

Being able to move comfortably between genres allows us to tailor every wedding to the couple rather than expecting couples to fit into a standard package.

Why Live Music Works So Well at Brig O’ Doon

Every wedding venue has its own character, and part of our role is adapting to each space.

Brig O’ Doon House Hotel lends itself particularly well to live music.

The ceremony room creates an intimate setting where live instruments add warmth and emotional depth.

Meanwhile, the drinks reception spaces allow music to fill the room naturally without overwhelming conversation.

The combination of piano and cello works especially well because it feels elegant and sophisticated whilst remaining approachable.

Guests often recognise songs before they realise what they are hearing, creating those wonderful moments where people smile at a favourite melody drifting through the room.

A Wonderful Day in Ayrshire

Looking back, Heather and Adam’s wedding was a perfect example of how music can help tell a couple’s story.

From the first notes before the ceremony through to the drinks reception afterwards, every musical choice felt intentional and meaningful.

The strong emphasis on faith throughout the ceremony created a deeply personal atmosphere, while the mix of hymns and contemporary music ensured guests of all ages felt included in the celebrations.

We particularly enjoyed accompanying the congregational hymns and helping support the musical elements that were clearly so important to the couple.
