A few years ago, Anne-Marie was in Sheffield whilst doing a Music Degree at the University there. Jules also has a link to Sheffield as his maternal Grandfather was born and grew up there.
And so it was a trip down memory lane in a sense for both of us when we made the journey from our home in the Cotswolds up to Sheffield for today’s wedding. Travelling up the night before we stayed at Wortley Hall just moments from the venue but not to be confused with Whitley Hall where the wedding was being held the next day.
Wortley Hall was an interesting hotel. Whilst this is not a hotel review site, it was perhaps not our best overnight stay, but to be fair we only paid half the advertised price. The room was basic but sufficient, and the breakfast was actually rather good!
Anyway, I digress. We were in Sheffield for the wedding of Caroline and Nigel at Whitley Hall just between Penistone and Chapeltown.

Wedding Day Time Music
Our brief was to provide day time music for the wedding ceremony and drinks reception. Despite this being Sheffield in April, the weather was positively tropical. So much so that AM claimed she had never experienced such heat in Sheffield! This meant we were playing outside for the duration of our time there – which is not an issue at all.
As the wedding was outside, and the drinks reception was on a terrace just below the ceremony area we were able to play from a single location throughout the afternoon. With our electric cello connected to a small PA system this ensured our performance could be heard by the guests as they moved around outside, but without being in any way over bearing.
