Established in 1827, Caroline Gardens was a series of Almshouses with a chapel at its centre. Residents were entitled to a small weekly cash payment, coal, medical care and medicine. Allegedly around 10,000 people came to the opening ceremony despite Peckham in those days being quite rural. It’s important to note that in this instance asylum refers to sanctuary rather than any form of psychiatric facility.
The Chapel was very much the heart of the community and reports suggest that services were bright and ‘partly choral’. This formed to backdrop for todays lovely wedding between Violet and Will.

Ceremony only
London always presents the challenge of traffic, particularly as we are travelling from the Cotswolds. Allowing 5 hours for what claimed to be a 3 hour trip we in fact arrived exactly on time five minutes before we were allowed in to setup!
With half an hour allowed to set up, it was full on following our arrival as we had to unload and set up all our gear and piano shell in a short amount of time. Luckily however, as we do this almost every day we can rise to any challenge and we were set up and ready in just 16 minutes.

Violet and Will had chosen some great music for us to play during their ceremony some of which was new to us.
We really enjoyed being a part of Violet and Will’s wedding in such a unique setting. The wedding was beautifully lead by the Southwark Registrars and the chapel lends itself to a very special wedding ceremony.
We wish Violet and Will all the best as they embark on their married future together and thank them for choosing JAM Duo to provide their ceremony music.
