Ceremony & Drinks Reception Music | 14th March 2026
There’s something particularly special about smaller weddings. With fewer guests, every moment feels closer, more personal, and more intentional—and that was exactly the atmosphere at Chloe and Josh’s beautiful wedding on 14th March 2026 at Davenport House.
We provided live piano and cello music throughout the day, covering both the ceremony and drinks reception indoors in the Main Hall. From cinematic pre-ceremony pieces to modern love songs and relaxed reception music, the entire day flowed effortlessly within one elegant space.

A Classic Shropshire Wedding Venue
Davenport House is one of those venues that immediately sets the tone. A Georgian country house surrounded by rolling Shropshire countryside, it combines grandeur with a calm, welcoming feel.
The Main Hall, where both the ceremony and drinks reception took place, is a particularly strong space for live music. High ceilings and classic architecture allow the sound of piano and cello to carry naturally, creating presence without overwhelming conversation or the ceremony itself.
For this wedding, everything was held downstairs with no access restrictions, making the day especially smooth from a logistical point of view. With around 40 guests, the space felt intimate but never small—perfectly balanced.
Guest Arrival: Cinematic and Atmospheric
As guests arrived between 12:00pm and 1:00pm, we performed a pre-ceremony set that leaned heavily into cinematic and instrumental music:
- Ezio’s Family – from Assassin’s Creed II
- Formula One Theme – Brian Tyler
- The Force Theme – John Williams (Star Wars)
- Game of Thrones Main Theme – Game of Thrones
- Music from The Lord of the Rings (The Shire, May It Be)
This style of music works beautifully during guest arrival. It creates atmosphere without being intrusive, and it often sparks recognition—guests quietly noticing familiar themes as they settle in.
In a venue like Davenport House, with its classical interior, these pieces feel especially at home. There’s a natural alignment between the grandeur of the space and the cinematic quality of the music.
A Simple and Elegant Bridal Entrance
Chloe chose a timeless and emotional piece for her entrance:
- All of Me – John Legend
With three bridesmaids and a very young flower boy (who understandably brought a touch of unpredictability to the timing), this was a moment where flexibility really mattered.
Live music allows us to adapt in real time—extending sections, softening dynamics, or holding a phrase just a little longer to match the pace of the aisle. That subtle responsiveness ensures the entrance always feels natural rather than rushed.
The result was a calm, elegant moment that felt completely unforced.
Signing the Register: Romantic and Reflective
For the signing, Chloe and Josh chose a beautifully balanced set of songs:
- Perfect – Ed Sheeran
- A Tale as Old as Time – from Beauty and the Beast
- Can’t Help Falling in Love – Elvis Presley
This combination of modern and classic works particularly well. It gives variety while maintaining a consistent emotional tone—romantic, familiar, and gently expressive.
In a smaller wedding, these moments feel even more present. Guests aren’t distracted; they’re fully engaged. The music becomes part of the shared experience rather than just a background element.
A Joyful Exit
To conclude the ceremony:
- Accidentally in Love – Counting Crows
This was a perfect choice to lift the mood and signal the transition into celebration. It’s upbeat, recognisable, and full of character—ideal for that first moment as a married couple walking back down the aisle.
Drinks Reception: Seamless and Relaxed
One of the advantages of this wedding was that the drinks reception remained in the same space. This meant there was no disruption, no reset—just a natural continuation of the day.
As guests moved from ceremony to drinks, the music shifted subtly in style and energy, supporting the change in atmosphere without any obvious break.
A Contemporary, Emotional Set
Chloe and Josh’s drinks reception playlist leaned towards modern love songs and expressive ballads:
- Nervous – John Legend
- Carry You Home – Alex Warren
- A Thousand Years – Christina Perri
- Love Story – Taylor Swift
- How Long Will I Love You – Ellie Goulding
- Yellow – Coldplay
- Another Love – Tom Odell
- Photograph – Ed Sheeran
These songs work particularly well as instrumental arrangements. Stripped back to piano and cello, the focus shifts to melody and harmony, creating a softer, more ambient feel that sits comfortably alongside conversation.
Musical Highlights and Variety
The set also included a number of standout pieces that added variety and texture:
- Shallow – from A Star Is Born (Lady Gaga / Bradley Cooper)
- Just the Way You Are – Bruno Mars
- Rule the World – Take That
- Dancing in the Moonlight – Toploader
- Nuvole Bianche – Ludovico Einaudi
- You’ll Be in My Heart – Phil Collins
- Never Enough – from The Greatest Showman
This kind of mix is ideal for drinks receptions. It moves between recognisable pop, film music, and instrumental works, keeping the atmosphere fresh without ever becoming distracting.
Why This Wedding Worked So Well
Chloe and Josh’s wedding was a perfect example of how simplicity and clarity can create a truly effective musical experience.
They focused on:
- A single, elegant indoor space
- A cohesive musical style across the day
- Songs that were meaningful but widely recognisable
With around 40 guests, every element felt considered and connected. There was no need for anything elaborate—the strength came from the quality of the setting and the care in the details.
