Live Piano & Cello Music for Elegant, Meaningful Farewells
When it comes to arranging a funeral or memorial service, music does more than fill the silence—it sets the tone, honours a life and brings comfort to those who mourn. At JAM Duo we specialise in live piano and cello performances that offer dignity, flexibility and a personal touch — whether in a chapel, crematorium, church, graveside or reception venue.
Why Live Music Matters at a Funeral or Memorial
Music can evoke emotion, memory and connection when words alone may fall short. According to guidance from the UK funeral sector, “the right music can turn a funeral into a memorable celebration” and help families reflect and remember. Deal Funeral Directors+1
Live musicians bring several significant advantages:
The possibility to personalise for your loved one: the song that touched their heart or the style that mirrored their spirit.
A responsive performance that adapts to the flow of service, rather than a pre-set playlist.
A sense of presence and significance — signalling that the occasion is special, deserving of live artistry.

How We Support Your Ceremony & Service
Entrance, Reflection & Exit
We work closely with you, your family or the funeral director to choose fitting music for each key moment — from arrival of guests, through the service, to the final farewell. Whether you prefer traditional hymns, contemporary love songs or instrumental pieces that transcend genres, our piano and cello duet will perform fully live, with respect and care.
Venue-Versatile Setup
We are equipped to perform in a wide range of settings:
- Church or chapel services
- Crematoria and memorial halls
- Green burials or woodland services
- Post-service receptions or tribute gatherings
Our gear is designed to fit these spaces quietly yet clearly — with minimal intrusion, maximum dignity.
Bespoke Song Choices & Arrangements
Even if your chosen music isn’t already in our repertoire, we’ll happily arrange it for piano and cello. Live music at funerals often involves songs that honoured your loved one’s life — whether traditional, modern or unexpected. Sources confirm that families are increasingly choosing music that reflects personality and story.
What to Consider When Choosing Music
Here are some helpful pointers:
- Tone & Theme: Decide whether you prefer a reflective, uplifting, or celebratory tone. Some services benefit from a mix: one piece for entrance, another for reflection, and a third for exit.
- Lyrics & Message: Ensure the words (if vocal) align with the occasion and tone you wish to set.
- Venue Acoustics & Equipment: Our team manages acoustics and volume so music helps the occasion rather than distracts.
- Live vs Recorded: While recorded music has its place, live performance offers a unique and meaningful dimension.
- Coordination: We liaise with the funeral director or venue to ensure our performance integrates seamlessly into the service.
Our Professional Standards & Equipment
- We perform 100% live, with no backing tracks or recordings.
- Our instrumentation: Nord Stage Piano and Yamaha Electric Cello, adapted to suit indoor or outdoor services.
- Our sound setup is discreet, high quality and appropriate for funeral venues: clear, respectful and well managed.
- Dress, presentation and coordination are tailored to the nature of the service—formal or discreet as required.

Organist for Church Services
As well as being the pianist for JAM Duo, Jules is also a cathedral standard organist. You may not want the organ for all musical elements of the funeral or memorial service but sometimes people like organ accompaniment to hymns for example. Jules can offer both hymns and / or a voluntary on the organ as part of the package. Just let us know what you prefer.
Below is a short video of Jules playing the organ at Coventry Cathedral just before the morning service.
