Your First Dance, Your Way
Live Music for a Moment You’ll Never Forget
For many couples, the first dance marks the beginning of the evening celebration — a personal, emotional, and sometimes light-hearted moment that kicks off the party.
At JAM Duo, we can arrange and perform any song of your choice, turning this moment into something completely unique and deeply meaningful — with the rich, expressive sound of live piano and cello.
When Does the First Dance Happen?
Typically, the first dance takes place after the wedding breakfast, once your guests have had time to relax and freshen up. There’s often a short break known as the cocktail hour — a chance for you to regroup and for evening guests to arrive.
If you’ve booked JAM Duo for your full day, this is normally the time we take a short break and reset. However, if you’d like live music or even just a curated playlist through our speaker system during this time, we’re happy to accommodate — just let us know during the planning stage.
Choosing Your First Dance Song
Your first dance doesn’t have to be traditional — it just has to be you.
Whether it’s:
- A slow, romantic ballad
- A stripped-back acoustic version of a pop song
- A quirky track with personal meaning
- Or something completely unexpected (yes, we’ve done Teenage Dirtbag — and it worked beautifully)
The key is to pick a song that reflects your relationship. Something that tells your story — no matter the tempo, genre, or decade.
💡 Stuck for ideas?
You’ll find inspiration on our Listen Page — but don’t feel limited by what’s there. We can arrange anything for piano and cello, just for you.

Why Have Your First Dance Played Live?
There’s something special about hearing your song, performed live, in that exact moment.
- The cello’s warm, vocal-like tone adds emotional depth
- The piano provides rhythm and harmony to carry the melody
- The tempo can be adjusted in real time — no awkward fade-outs or cut-offs
- The performance is tailored to you, not a recording
Even if you’re nervous about dancing, couples often find that a live, instrumental version makes the moment feel more intimate and less intimidating.
Want to Skip the First Dance?
That’s completely fine too. Not every couple wants a spotlight moment — and there are plenty of creative alternatives:
- A group dance with family or friends
- A surprise performance
- A fade-in track to gradually fill the floor
- Or simply letting the party build naturally
If you want something different, let us know — we’ll help you create a plan that fits your vibe.
What We Offer
- A bespoke arrangement of any first dance song
- Live performance on piano and cello
- Optional mic for a vocalist, if you’d like to sing or have someone sing for you
