Every wedding we play is special in its own way, and Katie and Martin’s ceremony at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Clarkston, just outside Glasgow, was no exception. This beautiful Scottish church, with its soft light and welcoming atmosphere, provided a wonderfully traditional setting for their heartfelt service.
Arrival at St Joseph’s
As guests gathered outside, the sound of a Scottish piper filled the air — a classic touch that instantly set the tone for the day. Inside, we (Jules on piano and Anne-Marie on cello) set up at the front near the organ, ensuring our music would gently accompany the ceremony without overpowering the singer and organist who led the hymns. The church’s acoustic was ideal — warm, resonant, and perfectly suited to the tone of cello and piano.
Pre-Ceremony Music
While friends and family took their seats, we performed a selection of reflective and contemporary pieces to create an atmosphere of calm anticipation:
- The Scientist – Coldplay
- Timeless – Taylor Swift
- Wildest Dreams – Taylor Swift
- Hallelujah – Leonard Cohen
- I Will Follow You Into the Dark – Death Cab for Cutie
This combination of modern and emotional music felt completely at home in such a traditional setting — bridging the timeless beauty of the church with the couple’s own musical tastes.

The Bridal Procession
For the entrance of the bridal party, we created a seamless blend of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” for the bridesmaids, moving effortlessly into Pachelbel’s Canon in D for Katie’s entrance.
The four bridesmaids, dressed in elegant green gowns, walked slowly down the aisle before the bride entered — a moment filled with emotion as the music swelled from the gentle opening chords of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” into the familiar progression of Canon in D. It’s a combination we often craft especially for our couples, and it always adds a beautiful sense of continuity and individuality to the moment.
During the Ceremony
There were moments of stillness and reflection throughout the service. As this was a full Roman Catholic ceremony, the hymns were accompanied by the church organist and singer. We paused respectfully for those, ensuring every part of the service flowed naturally.
For the signing of the register, we performed Schubert’s Ave Maria — one of the most beloved and sacred pieces of music for a wedding. The gentle dialogue between piano and cello carried beautifully through the church, adding a sense of grace and serenity as guests looked on.
Couple Exit
As the newlyweds prepared to make their way back down the aisle, we performed “Lover” by Taylor Swift — a romantic and fitting choice to conclude the ceremony. It’s a song that translates beautifully for cello and piano, with lyrical harmonies that perfectly echo the joy and emotion of that first walk as husband and wife.
A Beautiful Scottish Celebration
Following the service, Katie and Martin emerged from the church doors to the cheers of family and friends and the bright sound of the piper once more. Outside, waiting for them, was a classic white wedding car — the perfect finishing touch to their elegant day.
Although our part in the celebration ended with the ceremony, it was an absolute pleasure to provide the live music for such a meaningful occasion. After packing away our instruments, we began the long but scenic six-hour journey back to Wiltshire, reflecting on another wonderful day of music and memories.
Our Thoughts
Church weddings have a special charm — the grandeur of the setting, the tradition of live hymns, and the way our music can weave gently between the formal parts of the service. Playing in such a historic and welcoming church in Scotland was a true highlight for us.
Thank you, Katie and Martin, for inviting JAM Duo to be part of your beautiful ceremony. We wish you both every happiness for your future together.
