Live music throughout the day by JAM Duo – Piano and Cello

There are some wedding venues that just seem to have it all – elegance, warmth, grandeur, and that unmistakable sense of celebration woven into every corner. Balbirnie House, nestled in the heart of Fife, Scotland, is one of those places. This multi-award-winning country house, often named among Scotland’s top wedding venues, blends Georgian architecture with contemporary style and a relaxed Scottish welcome. It was the perfect setting for the wedding of Caitlin and Fraser, a day filled with joy, emotion, and a soundtrack beautifully shaped by JAM Duo.

A Stunning Scottish Setting

Balbirnie House sits within a 400-acre estate of manicured parkland near Markinch, just a short distance from St Andrews and Edinburgh. With its stately façade, sweeping lawns, and tree-lined drive, the venue feels like something straight out of a romantic film. Inside, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, with rich décor, chandeliers, and soft light streaming through tall windows – ideal for both ceremony and celebration.

The day began in The Orangery, where JAM Duo (Jules on piano and Anne-Marie on cello) set up for the indoor ceremony. The Orangery is a stunning, light-filled space with classic Georgian features and beautiful views across the grounds – a perfect stage for live music to accompany the most meaningful part of any wedding day.

Ceremony Music in The Orangery

As guests took their seats, JAM Duo performed a thoughtfully chosen pre-ceremony selection setting a romantic and emotional tone:

  1. I Get to Love You – Ruelle
  2. Chasing Cars – Snow Patrol
  3. I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing – Aerosmith
  4. Everglow – Coldplay (a special request from the Groom)
  5. Tale as Old as Time / Can’t Help Falling in Love – a blend requested by the Mother of the Groom, played just before the ceremony began

Each piece carried its own sentiment – from cinematic beauty to heartfelt sincerity – building anticipation as Caitlin prepared to make her entrance.

The bridal processional was truly something special, carefully designed to reflect both the couple’s personalities and family connections.

  • Wedding Party Processional: Lover – Taylor Swift
  • Bride’s Entrance (Caitlin accompanied by her Mum): Sparks Fly – Taylor Swift

A seamless musical transition linked the two pieces, creating an unforgettable walk down the aisle filled with emotion and excitement.

During the signing of the register, JAM Duo performed:

  • Wildest Dreams – Taylor Swift
  • Here Comes The Sun – The Beatles

And finally, for the joyful exit of the newlyweds, the unmistakable groove of Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed, Deliveredfilled the Orangery – the perfect upbeat celebration of the couple’s new beginning together.

Drinks Reception in the Bar

Following the ceremony, JAM Duo relocated seamlessly to the bar area for the drinks reception, setting up in the library section where guests gathered to toast Caitlin and Fraser.

The atmosphere was relaxed and happy, filled with conversation and laughter as the duo performed an extensive set of contemporary covers. Their blend of cello and piano created a sophisticated yet modern vibe, perfect for the occasion.

Highlights from the drinks set included:

  • Kiss Me – Sixpence None the Richer
  • Champagne Problems – Taylor Swift
  • Baby I’m Yours – Arctic Monkeys
  • Better Man – Paolo Nutini
  • Can You Feel the Love Tonight – Elton John
  • Crazy Little Thing Called Love – Queen

From soft love ballads to fun, upbeat anthems, every song was chosen by Caitlin and Fraser to suit the flow of their drinks reception – all 100% live and perfectly balanced for the space.

The Wedding Breakfast in The Ballroom

As guests moved downstairs for the next part of the day, JAM Duo once again relocated – this time to the grand Ballroom. With its chandeliers, high ceilings, and elegant table settings, it was a spectacular setting for the wedding breakfast.

Jules and Anne-Marie brought along their grand piano shell, ensuring a beautifully polished look that blended effortlessly with the room’s refined décor. Despite the curved stairwell (the piano wouldn’t quite fit in the lift!), the move was managed quickly and smoothly – a small testament to JAM Duo’s experience performing in venues of all shapes and sizes.

Caitlin and Fraser were piped into the meal – a proud Scottish tradition that filled the room with energy. With speeches taking place first, JAM Duo took a short break before returning to perform their meal set, filled with personal requests from the couple and cinematic favourites.

Music for the wedding breakfast included:

  • Jurassic Park Theme – John Williams (request)
  • Harry Potter (Hedwig’s Theme) – John Williams (request)
  • Ordinary – Alex Warren (request)
